Colossal Asteroid Star Party & Special Moments Quest Released

The Quest Team has created a special Moments Quest called the "Colossal Asteroid Fly-By 2024 Quest" to support student learning from the live Star Party!

The Star Party kicks off Slooh's activities for Asteroid Day 2024 and the two-day event we have been invited to in Luxembourg.  Join our host, Paul Cox, Slooh's educators, and our special guests to learn more about the threat these pesky space rocks pose to Earth.

Colossal Asteroid Fly-By Quest Primer

During the Star Party, students can watch the potentially hazardous asteroid 2011 UL21 travel across the field of view of three telescopes at Slooh's flagship observatory in the Canary Islands.  In this Quest, students will select their best images of the potentially hazardous asteroid 2011 UL21 snapped during the Star Party - up to 21 images - and create an animation that captures the entire event. The Quest covers different kinds of asteroids, what they are made of, and why this one is special.

The Quest has already been published, so make sure you start it now! Students will have until June 28, 2024, to begin the Quest. After that date, only students who have started the Quest will be able to complete it, so go start it now!

Remember, the only way to capture images to complete this Quest and be able to capture and animate this humongous space rock, is by snapping images during the Star Party.
